Mountain hike to Oberkaser Alp

General description

The hike to Oberkaser Alp requires a degree of fitness and stamina, but rewards hikers with fabulous views of Merano and the Etsch Valley.

Route description

Take the cable car up the mountain to the Hochmuth (inn). Follow trail no. 22 past Steinegg inn to Mutkopf inn, 1684 m. After approx. 40 minutes, turn right onto the Bockersteig (trail 22) to the next fork. Then bear left uphill on trail no. 22A (the Jaegersteig (huntsman’s trail)), which opens out into trail no. 25 just below the Taufenscharte and leads via the Pfitscherjoch to Oberkaser Alp (2131 m). After a good rest in the refuge hut continue along trail no. 6 on the left hand side of the brook down to the Bocker Hut (1717 m). Here, after crossing the Spronserbach brook, walk downhill past the Spronser Gaden (small alpine huts) to Kuegler Alp. Then continue along trail no. 6 down the valley to the Tiroler Kreuz inn. From here return to Dorf Tirol/Tirolo either on foot or by bus.

Along the Bolzano-Merano expressway to the Merano South/Sinigo exit - Tirolo - along the Via Principale and Via Aslago to the valley station of the Hochmuth cable car.
