From the Stuls/Stulles parking lot, head (westwards) along the semi-tarred road past some scattered farms, and then through a forest for about 1.5 km to the Hochegg farmstead. At this point, the road eastwards becomes steeper, as it crosses several uphill bends through mostly woodland. Shortly before arriving at the sprawling Stuller Mahdern meadows, the wide path branches off to the left, leading into woodland. Continuing through the forest (initially westwards, then northeast) the road leads out of the top of the forest onto some lush Alpine meadows before reaching the Egger-Grub-Alm mountain pasture (14). Climb up the steep grassy slope to reach the Hochalm refuge, which is visible in the distance (26). From there, proceed diagonally up the slope in a north-easterly direction, around some protruding terrain, before arriving on a whitish scree slope (15, 15a). Proceed on the left slope across several hairpin bends, and then pass over to the right onto a narrow ridge, which drops steeply down into the valley. Follow the left side of the ridge and continue along a narrow and rather exposed stretch on flatter terrain as it nears the summit. The final stretch of the route is straightforward. Simply turn to the right and continue to the top of the Hohe Kreuzspitze summit (15a).
