Hike to the Erensee Lake

Gentle hiking tour to a secluded mountain lake

Directions

The ascent to the Erensee Lake

You start your hike at the parking area in Pfelders (1,622 m) and first follow the wide gravel road (trail no. 6) toward Lazins. At the end of the village, directly above the tennis court an ice-skating rink, you leave the road and turn left onto a narrow forest trail heading towards Faltschnal Alm/Spronserjoch. From here, the trail climbs somewhat more steeply throug the shady mountain forest up to the Faltschnal Alm (1,871 m), beautifully situated at the tree line.You should allow about one hour for this first section.

From the Faltschnal Alm, continue for a short distance on trail no. 6. Soon afterwards, turn right, descend to the Faltschnal stream, and cross it. Shortly after crossing the stream, turn left onto trail no. 7. This path climbs quite steeply in tight switchbacks until the terrain gradually opens. You then reach the flatter area surrounding the lonely Erensee lake (2,291), beautifully nestled in a rocky basin directly below the migthy and very steep Erenspitze peak (2,760 m).

Attention: there is no marked hiking trail leading to Erenspitze peak

The return route: via Lazinser Hof and Zeppichl

For the return hike, first follow the same, route downhill until you are once again above the Fatlschnal stream. Here, turn left onto trail no. 4. This trail leads you, in the opposite direction from the Faltschnal Alm, down to Lazinser Hof (1,782 m). Once at the farmstead, switch onto the well-known Merano High Mountain Trail (no. 24). Follow this pleasant trail throught the idyllic hamlet of Zeppichl (1,680 m), and from there continue comfortably back to your starting point Pfelders along a paved road.

The trail is not suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.

Recommended equipment

War sturdy hiking boots, appropriate clothing for the weather and bring sufficient water and provisions.

Description to arrive at destination

• Coming from Meran towards the Passeiertal Valley, take the Jaufenstraße/via Passo Giovo SS44 to St. Leonhard, continue towards Moos, take on the Timmelsjochstraße and continue on the SP114 to Pfelders

• Coming from the Timmelsjoch, take on the Timmelsjochstraße to Moos and continue on the SP114 to Pfelders

• Coming from the Jaufenpass towards St. Leonhard, take the Jaufenstraße S44, continue towards Moos on the Timmelsjochstraße and continue on the SP114 to Pfelders
