This hike on the Ifinger peak (2.581m), Scena's local mountain, provides a magnificent panoramic view of the Merano mountains, but requires a head for heights and is only recommended for sure-footed, experienced hikers.
The eventful Ifinger summit hike starts at the mountain station of the Merano 2000 cable car. At the restaurant Piffinger Köpfl, you comfortably hike along the wide path No. 3 towards Waidmannalm mountain hut. Just before the hut, follow path No. 19A uphill, past St. Oswald chapel, into the shallow basin, and continue to Kuhleitenhütte. The path now becomes a narrow trail and leads relatively steeply along the grassy ridge to the junction for Großer Ifinger. The path begins with a north-facing traverse. Special caution is required until you reach the first secured sections (difficulty A). This is followed by a short walking terrain with a few brief sections of easy climbing (maximum grade I), then the increasingly steep ascent is again secured (difficulty A/B) and soon you reach the summit via easy rocky terrain. The descent follows the same path.
From Merano in the direction of Avelengo and on to Falzeben.
