Mountain Tour to Speikspitze Peak (2,428 m)

Beautiful circular hike to a panoramic summit.

End point: Rappenhöfe, Magdfeld

Directions

From the parking area near the Rappenhöfe farmsteads (1,285 m), above Magdfeld, initially follow trail No. 4. The trail climbs steeply through the shady forest and then continues across alpine meadows to Faglsalm Alp (1,980 m). After crossing another higher section of terrain, stay on trail No. 4 and reach Faglssee Lake (2,091 m), located just over 100 metres higher in elevation than the alpine hut.

Continue along the main trail for around 15 minutes, then turn left onto the trail leading to Speikspitze Peak. Caution: This junction is not signposted and is only sparsely marked. The trail becomes steeper as it climbs towards the summit of Speikspitze Peak (2,428 m).

From the summit, follow an unmarked, lightly worn trail eastwards towards Saltausjoch ridge (2,284 m). From there, the route continues over scree-covered terrain, initially following trail No. 5 and then trail No. 4, passing the Faglssee Lake and returning to the Faglsalm Alp.

From the alpine hut, follow trail No. 6, which climbs gently without any major elevation gain towards a mountain ridge. Here, turn onto trail No. 6A. After around 40 minutes in total from the alpine hut, you reach the Fiechtjöchl ridge (1,863 m).

At the Fiechtjöchl ridge, turn right. The descent now leads mostly quite steeply through the mountain forest until, after another 40 minutes, you reach a tractor track.

Follow the track at an easy pace to the inn Naserhof (1,350 m). From the inn Naserhof, follow the forest road back to the parking area near the Rappenhöfe farmsteads.

The trail is not suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.

Recommended equipment

War sturdy hiking boots, appropriate clothing for the weather and bring sufficient water and provisions.

• Coming from Meran towards the Passeiertal Valley, take the Jaufenstraße SS44 to St. Martin. Approx. 1 km before St. Martin follow the left mountain road to Magdfeld. After the Magdfeld inn, continue into the valley until you reach the parking lot at Rappenhöfe farm.

• Coming from the Jaufenpass towards Meran, take the Jaufenstraße SS44 to St. Martin. Approx. 1 km after St. Martin follow the left mountain road to Magdfeld. After the Magdfeld inn, continue into the valley until you reach the parking lot at Rappenhöfe farm.

• Coming from the Timmelsjoch towards Moos, continue on the Timmelsjochstraße towards St. Leonhard on the same road, then continue towards Meran on the Jaufenstaße SS44 to St.Martin. Approx. 1 km after St. Martin follow the left mountain road to Magdfeld. After the Magdfeld inn, continue into the valley until you reach the parking lot at Rappenhöfe farm.

There is no public bus to Magdfeld. For this tour you need a car to get to the starting point.

This tour requires a little physical condition. Surefootedness on the last part below the summit is an advantage.
