Hike to the Faglsee Lake

Shady uphill hike, scenic downhill

The ascent: via Faglsalm Alp to the mountain lake

Your hike begins in Magdfeld (1,148 m). At first, follow the gravel road for about 1.5 km with a gentle incline until you reach the parking area near the Rappenhöfe farms (1,285 m), located on a bend in the road.

Tour planning note: It is also possible to start the hike directly at the Rappenhöfe farms in order to shorten the first section.

At the farms, continue straight ahead and follow trail no. 4. From here, the path climbs quite steeply throug the shady forest. After this more demanding ascent, the landscapes opens up and the trail continues more gently across wide alpine meadows until, after a total hiking time of about 2.5 hours, you reach the Faglsalm Alp (1,980 m).

From the alpine hut, only a little more than 100 meters of elevation gain separates you from your actual destination. After another ascent of around 20 minutes, you arrive at the peacfully situated Faglssee lake (2,091 m), an ideal place to rest surrounded by magnificent mountain scenery.

The return route: via Fiechtjöchl and Naserhof

For the return hike, first walk the short distance back to the Faglsalm Alp. From there, follow trail no. 6, which leads without much ascent to a mountain ridge. Here, turn onto trail no. 6A and after about 40 minutes from the alpine hut, you reach Fiechtjöchl (1,863 m).

At Fiechtjöchl, turn right. The descent now continues mostly quite steeply through the mountain forest until, after another 40 minutes, you reach a tractor road. Follow this comfortable route past Naserhof farm (1,350 m). The final section leads you through a pleasantly shaded forest back to the starting point in Madgfeld.

Note: If you started the hike at the Rappenhöfe farms and parked there, simply follow the forest road from Naserhof, which leads directly back to the parking area.

For the entire return route from the Faglsalm Alp bakc to Magdfeld, you should allow approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes of hiking time.

The trail is not suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.

Recommended equipment

War sturdy hiking boots, appropriate clothing for the weather and bring sufficient water and provisions.

• Coming from Meran towards the Passeiertal Valley, take the Jaufenstraße SS44 to Kalmtal, turn left towards Magfeld

• Coming from the Jaufenpass towards Meran, take the Jaufenstraße SS44 to Kalmtal, turn right towards Magdfeld

• Coming from the Timmelsjoch/Passo Rombo towards Moos, continue on the Timmelsjochstraße towards St. Leonhard on the same road, then continue towards Meran on the Jaufenstraße SS44 to Kalmtal, turn right towards Magfeld
