Small festival with ‘Klezmer music’ and ‘Yiddish Lider’.
13 songs tell a story...
The songs tell of the sorrows and happiness of a Yiddish grandmother who stands in her kitchen and cooks ‘varenikes’, Yiddish-Ukrainian ravioli. Her thoughts range from the happiness and disaster of love to ‘Kindsn’, religion and revolution... tender, strong, jazzy and romantic songs, straight from life. But what is Ashkenaz? Where is this ‘Yiddishland’? with Michele Giro - piano, Friede Haupt - voice, Marco Patrizi - double bass; in collaboration with: Jewish Museum Merano, Women's Museum, Muspilli, GospelCantorei Merano, Euphur.
Jazz pianist Michele Giro plays with the elements of Yiddish and jazz, bassist Marco Patrizi picks up on them, and singer Friede Haupt brings the tender, strong old world of ‘Yiddishland’ to life in a language that you almost think you understand. In 13 songs, the trio awakens the old language of ‘Yiddish’ with jazz. Musical material wanders between worlds, from Odessa to New Orleans.
