The Maddalene mountain chain forms part of the Ortler-Cevedale massif in the Rhaetian Alps. The lush vegetation of the Maddalene mountains is home to a wide variety of animals and plants that have long adapted to the changing seasons of this pastoral setting.
Hiking and Nordic Walking along the
mountain trails during summer, passing lakes, mountain huts and pastures, is an exhilarating experience in this untouched landscape. In winter, the snow-covered environment is ideal for
snowshoe hiking or
ski touring. The summits of Laugen, Ilmenspitz, Hochwart, Cima Binagia and Stübele are all easily seen from the heights of the Maddalene mountains.
Since 2009, mountain sports events including the Maddalene Sky Marathon (44.5 km) and the Maddalene Mountain Race (25 km) have become annual fixtures.
