A Village Full of Unique Features

Marling is more than just a picturesque village nestled among vineyards and apple orchards – it is a place filled with stories, traditions, and unique experiences.
A special symbol of its connection to the region is the Marling Apple Crown, a beautifully decorated float that takes part in the Merano Grape Festival every year. This historic celebration, held since 1886, honors the harvest season and combines tradition, culinary delights, and conviviality.
But Marling has even more to offer: the impressive chimes of the bells of Marling’s parish church tell stories from centuries past, while the drinking water fountains provide hikers and visitors with fresh spring water. Even during the quieter winter months, you don’t have to miss out on regional flavors: thanks to the Tasty to go! initiative, you can still enjoy local delicacies along the Marling Waalweg – a perfect alternative when many traditional taverns take a seasonal break.
Discover Marling and its unique features – and be surprised by everything that makes this village so special!

Waalwege are traditional walking paths that follow historic irrigation channels, built centuries ago to bring water from mountain streams to fields and orchards. Today, these paths are among the most unique hiking experiences in the Merano region. They run mostly flat along the slopes, making them ideal for relaxed walks, families and anyone looking to explore nature without steep climbs.🥾💧

Goaßlschnöllen is a traditional South Tyrolean folk custom where specially made whips create loud, rhythmic cracking sounds. Once used by farmers and shepherds for communication and seasonal rituals, it is now celebrated at village festivals and competitions, where skill, rhythm, and technique are judged.🏔🌳

The fishing season begins as early as the second Sunday in February and lasts until October 31. Around Merano, numerous spots offer brown trout, rainbow trout and char in clear waters.🐟🎣

Top spots:
• Passer, fast-flowing waters with good catch opportunities
• Ultental with the Falschauer, ideal for fly fishing.
• Mountain lakes (e.g. Zoggler, Grünsee, Schwarzsee), quiet spots at higher altitudes.

An Italian fishing licence and a daily permit are required. Daily permits are available online via the Südtirol Fishing App.
