The “Franz Huber Trail” is a high-alpine and scenically magnificent climb from the Lodnerhütte hut (2,259 m) in the Zieltal valley to the Tablander Alm hut on the Merano High Mountain Trail. Those who have the necessary endurance, sure-footedness will love this section.
Attention: this hike is only for trained and experienced mountaineers who do not suffer from vertigo and who are in good physical condition and surefooted. In addition, the descent is exceptionally long!

From the mountain station of the Texelbahn cableway in 5 minutes to Gasthof Giggelberg farm/inn. From there we hike along the Merano High Mountain Trail n° 24 to Nasereit hut (1,523 m - approx. 1 h).
Here, trail n° 8 branches off and leads us through the wild and romantic Zieltal valley, past the “Kaserstein” and “Gingglalm” (2,198 m) to the Lodnerhütte hut. We reach the refuge, situated at the confluence of the Zielbach and Lafaisbach streams, in approx. 3 h 30 min (from the Texelbahn mountain station).
From here, take the “Franz-Huber Trail” along route n° 7B (this stretch is challenging – not for sufferers of vertigo!) and take the fork to the left on route n° 1 up to the Sattelspitze Peakat 2,429 m onwards to route n° 1/7B down to the Tablander Alm hut at 1,788 m. Continue along the Merano High Mountain Trail n° 24 back to the starting point!
