While there is still snow in the Alps, in and around Merano/Meran everything is already starting to bloom. Rising to an altitude of over 3,000m a.s.l., the Texelgruppe mountain range protects the Merano basin from precipitation and winds from the north, allowing warm air to blow in from the south. The resulting mild climate produces lush, Alpine-Mediterranean vegetation: pines and birches grow alongside palm and olive trees.
In April, apple trees are in bloom, while in summer the dense forests provide welcome shade. In autumn, colorful trees and vineyards turn the region into a spectacular setting for hiking. The sun and mild temperatures in the spa town of Merano enable outdoor activities from January to December.
