Hike from Neumarkt to Castelfeder & Montan: historic ruins, Adige Valley views, vineyards, and local inn stop.
Hike in the Adige Valley – From Neumarkt to Castelfeder and Montan
We travel by coach down through the Adige Valley to Neumarkt (Egna), the starting point of our hike. Following a moderate incline, we walk up to the historic hill of Castelfeder (405 m), which offers a magnificent panoramic view of the Adige Valley, Lake Kaltern, and the wine-growing villages of Pinzon and Montan.
The hill of Castelfeder has been inhabited since prehistoric times, and visitors can still find remnants of masonry from various eras. The hike continues toward Pinzon and then to Montan (496 m); the final 15 minutes follow a narrow but very quiet road leading into the village center. We will stop for a break at a local inn in Montan. After lunch, the descent takes us past the edges of vineyards and through mixed forests back to our starting point.
Sturdy hiking boots, sun and rain protection: clothing adapted to the season and the hiking destination, drink.
