Lost & Found: Newly discovered documents on mining in the Hinterpasseier Valley
Conference with Armin Torggler
Since 2025, the business archive of the former mining company "Ahrner Handel" has been accessible, providing new insights into the region's mining history. As part of ongoing research, previously little-known documents relating to mining in the Hinterpasseier Valley have also come to light. The lecture presents, among other things, some initial findings from these newly discovered sources and shows how archival research can broaden our knowledge of historical mining.
More specifically, the documents date from the 16th century and concern the mine at Karlen. Until now, little more has been known about this mining operation than the fact that it existed.
The conference will be in German.
