Eichenstein, a small piece of paradise, is located in a fantastic location at 550 meters in Freiberg, high above Meran. The winery Eichenstein also includes three vineyards in Marling on the opposite side of the valley. In the "Rosarium" are Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon and Riesling, in "Wartegg" Merlot and Cabernet Franc and in "Knott" Sauvignon, Pinot Blanc and Vernatsch. In Marling lies the origin of the Eichenstein winegrowing. Sepp Waldner from the Oberwirt in Marling started to expand and bottle his own wine from 2004 onwards. He continued a tradition that goes back over 11 generations in the Waldner family and in the former inn and now Romantik Hotel Oberwirt. In 2004 and 2006 the first two new wines were produced in Marling: the white wine "Gloria Dei" and the red wine "Baccara". The white is a Cuvèe from Sauvignon, Pinot Blanc and Riesling, the red consists mainly of Merlot, which gives some Cabernet Franc the spice. The name of the two wines goes back to the Rose Passion by Sepp Waldner, who has more than 1500 rose bushes in his private gardens. The range includes the Cuvees "Gloria Dei" and "Baccara", as well as the varietal wines Pinot Blanc, Sauignon, Chardonnay and Riesling.
The wines can be purchased at the Romantik Hotel.
