High above the Etschtal valley at 1,200 m a.s.l., lies the small village of Vöran/Verano with 930 inhabitants. The mild climate invites visitors year round for walks and hikes through the woods and meadows of the mountain plateau.

The village of
Vöran is easy to reach, either with the cable car from Burgstall/Postal to the centre of Vöran or via the panoramic roads from Terlan/Terlano – Mölten/Meltina or Meran/Merano – Hafling/Avelengo.
Worth seeing in Vöran are the old
thatched roofs of the some mountain farms, which are of bayuvarian origin. In addition to the idyllic farms, there are three red porphyry rocks, called Rotstein, Beimstein and Timpfler Knott. On the Rotstein Knott you can find the unique and interactive art installation “
Knottnkino” (knott meaning rock, kino meaning cinema), one of the most beautiful viewpoints in South Tyrol. Sitting in wooden cinema seats, you can observe Meran and the Etschtal valley as well as the surrounding mountains. The
Knottnkino³ circuit trail connects the three landmarks of Vöran in a four-hour hike.
Hiking in Vöran and surroundings
Around Vöran you will find numerous
hiking trails, year in and year out. In addition to the
Knottnkino and its circuit trail, you can reach the
Stoanernen Mandln (stone men) from Vöran. The
Sunnseitn Steig trail from Burgstall to Vöran is a popular running and speed hiking trail. But also hiking trails for
families can be found in Vöran and the surrounding area. Various
restaurants and
mountain huts invite you to a stop for delicious food in front of an amazing mountain backdrop.
