The Törggelen festival is synonymous with South Tyrolean hospitality. The word comes from the Latin word torculus, meaning press, which translates as Torggl in German. At the end of the autumn harvest, the rustic inns and taverns of Nalles/Nals serve regional dishes paired with the finest local wines. To end off the evening, hot roasted chestnuts are accompanied by a dessert wine. Along with South Tyrolean speck, apple strudel and Krapfen (local doughnuts), the chestnut features high on the Törggelen menu.
Chestnut trees grow on the slopes of the Mendel, the mountain to the west of Nalles. In autumn, chestnut delicacies are served in the rustic, welcoming taverns and barns throughout Nalles and Sirmiano.
