St. Leonhard/ S. Leonardo, the largest municipality in the Passeiertal Valley, nestles idyllically at the confluence of the Waltner and Passer Rivers, at the foot of the Jaufenpass pass. The beautiful landscape and excellent climatic conditions in St.Leonhard make it the ideal destination for action-loving holidaymakers, families, and those seeking rest and relaxation. As birthplace of the Tyrolean freedom fighter Andreas Hofer, this village in the heart of the Passeiertal Valley also has a great deal of culture to offer: Sandwirt Inn, located just before the entrance to the village, is where Andreas Hofer was born; today, it houses the MuseumPasseier. St.Leonhard is also characterised by its “Schildhöfe”, estates in which the aristocracy once lived, and Jaufenburg Castle, which dates from the late Middle Ages. Walten, a delightful village for gourmets and hikers, lies next to the Jaufenpass road and is also a hamlet of St.Leonhard.
