Formerly used to irrigate the orchards and vineyards along the Etschtal Valley/Val d’Adige, the Waalwege trails leading along the centuries-old waterways offer easy walks for everyone. From the end of April to November the waterways still carries water, only in the cold months they remain empty.
The Schenner Waalweg trails leads from the Masulschlucht gorge above the village of Schenna/Scena through pine forests, orchards and pastures overlooking the Meran/Merano basin. Below Schenna, the Maiser Waalweg trail leads through the apple orchards along the Passer river to Saltaus/Saltusio. Together with nine other Waalwege trails, the Schenna Waalwege trails forms part of the 80-km Meraner Waalrunde Circuit Trail.
