What would South Tyrol be without its fifth season, the festive Törggelen event in fall? Every year in October after the harvest season, the Törggele period begins. After the initial feast of thanksgiving for the harvest, when the farmers offer thanks that everything has gone well, it is party time. This is the time to sit together and relish a convivial meal with friends and taste the seasonal new wine. It is best experienced in a wine cellar or a lunch in a green garden among the autumnal colors and the breathtaking panoramic views around Schenna/Scena.
In local wine cellars, taverns and inns, the new wine is tasted along with a cold plate of farm-bacon, cheese and local rye bread. Very often there is also a first course of filled ravioli, followed by a hearty meal of sausages, dumplings and sauerkraut. Finally, sweet donuts filled with poppyseed, jam, and, above all, roasted chestnuts, are served with a “Suser”, a mildly alcoholic sweet wine.
At this time of year, guided Törggele hikes and weekly Törggele afternoons are offered in Schenna in the center of the village, with Suser and chestnuts.
