Nowhere else in South Tyrol can hikers enjoy such an abundance of
hiking trails accessible from spring until late fall as in Merano and Environs.
The array of paths and trails ranges from the
Tappeinerweg botanical trail in the town center of Merano/Meran, bordered by cypress and palm trees, to the high alpine path leading up to the summits and glaciers. The Merano basin can be circled by the
Meraner Waalrunde Circuit Trail, while experienced mountaineers can circumnavigate the Texelgruppe Nature Park with the scenic
Merano High Mountain Trail.
Several
long distance trails, such as the
E 5 European Long-Distance Trail, the Tirolo High Mountain Trail, the Sarntaler Hufeisentour circuit trail and the Romedius Pilgerweg pilgrimage route lead through the surrounding high Alpine landscapes. Many of the well-marked hiking trails in South Tyrol start directly from your doorstep, while others are easily reached by cable car or public transport.
