Hike to the Großer Schwarzsee Lake
Outing to the biggest mountain lake in the valley
Although this hike does not present particular challenges it is nevertheless enjoyable, leading through characteristic Alpine pastures. On the return, experienced and sturdy hikers can take the rough track on the right side of the valley.

Directions
You begin the hike at the parking area near the Timmelsbrücke bridge (1,760 m), directly along the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road. From there, follow the moderately ascending gravel road (trail no. 30) deeper into the valley towards the Timmelsalm Alp (1,974 m), which you reach after about 50 minutes.
At the alpine hut, cross the bridge and continue following trail no. 30. The path now climbs in a north-easterly direction along the left side of the valley. After the first ascent, you reach Unterkrumpwasser (2,230 m), a broad and flat high plateau where the Passer River flows in pronounced meanders.
Continue along the marked trail ascending the slope, with flatter and steeper sections alternating along the way. After another rise in the terrain, you reach a plain with a sheperd's hut (2,350 m). Beyond this point begins the final and significantly steeper section of the hike. Following this rocky mountain trail, you eventually arrive at the Großen Schwarzsee Lake (2,514 m), beautifully situated in an alpine cirque.
The return follows the same route back.
The trail is not suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.
Starting at the parking lot across Timmelsbrücke bridge, take the road on the right to the main valley leading north to the Timmelsalm pasture. Crossing over the bridge behind the hut continue left in a northeasterly direction, where the Passer river winds its way across the wide Unterkrumpwasser plateau. From here, keep on the left side of the valley before reaching a hill that rises steeply in front of the Schwarzsee lake ( trail no. 30).
From Schwarzsee lake return to the Timmelsalm pasture and to Timmelsbrücke bridge on trail no. 30.

War sturdy hiking boots, appropriate clothing for the weather and bring sufficient water and provisions.
Description to arrive at destination
• Coming from Meran towards the Passeiertal Valley, take the Jaufenstraße SS44 to St. Leonhard, continue on the Timmelsjochstraße to Moos. After Moos, continue to the parking place at Timmelsbrücke bridge
• Coming from the Timmelsjoch, take the Timmelsjochstraße until just before Moos, then continue to the parking place at Timmelsbrücke bridge
• Coming from the Jaufenpass towards St. Leonhard, take the Jaufenstraße SS44, continue on the Timmelsjochstraße towards Moos and further along the Timmelsjochstraße. After Moos, continue to the parking place at the Timmelsbrücke bridge
