General description
This picturesque hike along the Schenner Waal irrigation channel runs along an unspoilt trail through the chestnut grove and orchards high above the spa town of Merano, and is also thoroughly recommended for hot summer days.
Route description
The hike starts in the center of Schenna. Passing the tourist office, you walk up Schlossweg until the junction with Verdinser Straße. Follow this road until the turn-off to Ifinger Straße and follow hiking trail no. 20, which is somewhat steep, up to the valley station of the Taser cable car. Below the valley station, the Schenner Waalweg branches off to the right. Heading south, you reach the "Katzenleiter" and the Café am Waal. Following the watercourse, you arrive in St. Georgen, from where you take the meadow path before the church and then return to Schenna via St. Georgener Straße.
If you prefer to skip the climb to the Waalweg, you can alternatively take bus line 233 from Schenna village to the valley station of the Taser cable car.
