Lana – dorp van kerken en kloosters

Het kerkendorp Lana telt meer dan 40 kerken en kapellen, evenals meerdere kloosters, afkomstig uit ruim tien eeuwen geschiedenis. De oudste kerken werden in het eerste millennium gebouwd, nog voor de eerste vermelding van Lana in een officieel document. Eén hiervan, St. Margarethen, is tot op de dag van vandaag bewaard gebleven. Deze kerk is ook een halte van het culturele wandelproject Stiegen zum Himmel (opstijgen naar de hemel) van Spuren der Romanik (sporen van romaanse kunst).

Bergkerken in Lana en omgeving

Op de basaltheuvel van Narano/Naraun in het dorp Foiana/Völlan ligt het kleine kerkje St. Hippolyt, op een plek die in de prehistorie al een religieuze betekenis had. Tegenwoordig is het een geliefde locatie voor uitstapjes, want de St. Hippolyt biedt een prachtig wijds uitzicht op het omliggende berglandschap. Nog hoger ligt de kerk Wetterkirche St. Vigilius op de Vigiljoch.

Aan het einde van de veertiende eeuw werd de gotische St. Peter-kerk gebouwd. De Pfarrkirche (parochiekerk) Maria Himmelfahrt hoort met zijn schitterende vleugelaltaar van Hans Schnatterpeck bij de mooiste bouwwerken van de laat-gotiek in Zuid-Tirol. De kerk Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche werd in de jaren ’20 van de vorige eeuw gebouwd. In het aansluitende ordehuis ligt de grote en innovatieve kloostertuin Galanthus, waar zowel geneeskrachtige als culinaire biologische kruiden te koop worden aangeboden.
