Texelgruppe Nature Park in Naturns

Hiking in the largest natural park in South Tyrol

The Texel Group Nature Park, covering 33,000 hectares, is the largest of South Tyrol's seven nature parks. The Texel Group is a peaceful retreat, where the noise of the world fades away, leaving only nature and humankind. Explore its mesmerizing landscapes, the Merano High Mountain Trail, impressive peaks, and breathtaking views.

Hiking destinations like the Merano High Mountain Trail, the Spronser Lakes, and the Pfossental Valley captivate nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts. The park also contains remote areas, high plateaus, and untouched alpine valleys.
What makes the Texel Group so unique is not only its remarkable flora and fauna, but also the traces of prehistoric settlements, fortifications, and cult sites, proving that humans have lived in the Texel Group from an early stage.
Stone bowls, "Ötzi" the Iceman, and the "Totenweg" path from Pfelders to Dorf Tirol all provide evidence of early human presence in the Texel Group.

During the late Middle Ages, as the population grew, year-round farms were built up to an altitude of 2,000 meters. The highest-altitude farms in South Tyrol, which were cultivated year-round until about 100 years ago, are located in the Texel Group: the Obermairalm, the Rableidhof, the Matzlaunhof, and the Eishof. Located at around 2,000 meters above sea level, these farms continue to be used for summer alpine farming and, in some cases, as places for hikers to stop and rest.

At the Nature Park House Texel Group in Naturns, hikers can experience the essence of the Texel Group Nature Park on a smaller scale.

That the once indomitable Sonnenberg mountain in Naturns/Naturno has in recent decades become one of the most beautiful hiking areas in South Tyrol, is large part due to Konrad Götsch.
