Eduard Demetz
The two staircases connecting the five levels of the car park feature a sound installation by Eduard Demetz (Bozen/Bolzano, 1958) that engages in an artistic dialogue with the installation created by Dall’O. A musician and composer with a degree from the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Demetz has composed numerous chamber music and orchestral works, as well as scores for films, plays and television programs. He is a lecturer at the Conservatory of Bozen/Bolzano.
His ten-minute sound collage is played every hour. It features music, sounds and voices of the underground. The composition comprises two acoustic levels on two CDs: both CDs contain recordings of sound, while spoken-word samples are played alternatingly. When using the car park’s staircase, one is accompanied by these spoken fragments of diverse origin. The artwork’s aim is–as the artist explained–“to create a babble of voices as company for those who enter the car park alone and come to a non-place like a staircase.”
