The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle

Merano’s world-class botanical gardens

The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle and the Touriseum will be open from march 29 to November 15, 2024.

INTERnationally renowned BOTANICAL GARDENS

Recognised by many as among the most beautiful gardens in the world, the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle extend all the way to Merano/Meran’s easternmost outskirts. In 2013, the pride of Merano was awarded the coveted International Garden of the Year Prize at the Toronto (Canada) Garden Tourism Conference.

Shaped like a amphitheatre centred around a large lily pond, the centrepiece of the Gardens is its 80 garden landscapes with plants from all over the world. Numerous ‘experience stations’, as well as ten art pavilions and a spectacular lookout platform are open to members of the public. These, a ‘Forbidden Garden’ and Botanical Underworld all combine to make the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle an exciting visitor experience for everyone in the family!

THE TOURISEUM

Dominating the sprawling botanical gardens is the towering structure of Trauttmansdorff Castle itself. Empress Elisabeth of Austria’s former residence now houses the South Tyrolean Museum of Tourism (known as the ‘Touriseum’). In its painstaking reconstructions, a series of interactive installations tell the story of over 200 years of tourism history in Tyrol.
