What is Geocaching?
Geocaching is a modern technological version of the classic treasure hunt. Cachers hide the treasures (or prizes known as caches) marking their exact location on a GPS. Armed with GPS devices or mobile/smartphones with integrated GPS, Geocachers go on exciting treasure hunts, following the coordinates shown on dedicated websites, in search of a cache container, which also holds the so-called Logbook, a small notebook where the finder enters his or her name.
There are various types of caches:
the traditional cache, where the coordinates guide you tot he cache, the "mystery cache" where you have to solve a riddle of some kind to receive the true coordinates, caches which can be found only with certain equipment (such as mountain climbing or scuba gear); Earth caches which want to show you specific geological conditions.
In addition caches also have different levels of difficulty ranging from to 1 (very easy to find) to 5 (very hard to find). Even the terrain will be classified so that it is immediately apparent whether the cache is easily accessible (eg wheelchair) or even requires equipment (climbing gear…) to reach. So every taste, age and experience level should have something to discover.
But very geocache has one thing in common: the fun associated with Geocaching, the possibility of outdoor activities and the fun exploring and riddling!
In Parcines there are now more then 100 caches to be discovered!
These were placed by local geocachers who also maintain them. You can either find individual caches or go on a long walk where the caches are placed in rounds.
Our TIP: Cache hike with 12 caches along the Sonnenberger Panoramaweg trail no. 91 to Naturns/Naturno.
