The wolf is back: A human exhibition
The exhibition invites a deeper exploration of the topic, offering diverse perspectives and encouraging open dialogue.
The return of the wolf raises old and new questions:
How much wilderness can the densely populated Alpine region tolerate?
How does the presence of the predator change our landscapes, livestock farming, and our lives?
The wolf, in its long journeys, crosses many boundaries: spatial, political, and even emotional. By ignoring these boundaries, it challenges the limits imposed by humans. These limits are shifted, negotiated, or abolished. Where does wilderness end and human settlement begin? Who has the right to inhabit a place, and who finds their place in the world?
The exhibition ‘The Wolf is Back’, curated by the Alpine Museum of Switzerland in collaboration with the University of Zurich, focuses on people and their relationship with the wolf. It features individuals sharing their experiences who deal professionally with this animal. Numerous parallels can be drawn between the Alpine-shaped Switzerland and South Tyrol. In comparison, there are figures from South Tyrol and the latest information from the Office for Wildlife Management in South Tyrol.
