Architecture has always played a big role in Lana, and as a result the village is today filled with monuments from across many centuries. In the past, these were mainly church buildings. in the 19th Century, Lana made a name for itself through modern innovators such as the cable car pioneer Luis Zuegg.
Around 40 historic churches, chapels and monasteries testify to Lana as a place steeped in the past. The original St. Margaret Church was built prior to the year 1000, making it one of the oldest churches in Lana. The Brandis, Leonburg and Braunsberg
castles all date from the High Middle Ages and decorate the panoramic view above the village. Today, picturesque paths lined with contemporary sculptures and works of art adorn these sites of cultural and historic importance, bringing together the contemporary and the past in a harmonious way.
Even today, architects from Lana remain up to date with the times. In addition to many historic buildings, Lana also has great sense of innovation and it is not for nothing that it has been awarded the European Village Renewal Prize.
