Culture in
Lana and the surrounding area has many facets. Historic paths are juxtaposed with the contemporary Lana
Sculpture Trail. Historic
castles and manors alternate with contemporary and rustic edifices in small towns and villages. In the Lana district alone, there are around 40 ancient
churches, chapels and monasteries – some dating as far back as to the 10th Century, recounting its rich history.
Outdoor telescopes offer views of the attractions in and around Lana.
Cycling along the old
Via Claudia Augusta is one way to experience the landscape, or it can be explored on a hike. Stretching from the Danube to the Adriatic Sea, this ancient Roman road showcases a wealth of architecture, art and history, which is found all along the route. Another cultural hotspot is the nearby spa town of Meran/Merano, with its magnificent buildings, the Thermal Baths and the renowned Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, where Empress Sissi once resided.
