A few minutes from Lana by cable car, Mount Vigiljoch has numerous snowshoe hiking trail to offer in a pristine environment closed to road traffic. One of the most popular snowshoeing routes is the easy hike from the cable car mountain station to the Bärenbadalm mountain hut, continuing along to the St. Vigilius Kirche church before winding back to the starting point.
The 3-hour snowshoe hike from chairlift mountain station to the Naturnser Alm mountain hut is more challenging. Snowshoes and other equipment are available at the rental outlet near the Vigiljoch Cable Car valley station in Lana.
Where better to enjoy winter than in the car-free hiking are of the San Vigilio mountain pass above Lana? You can get there by foot or cable car in only a few minutes. It is an ideal winter destination for hikers, ski mountaineers, tobaggonists and snow hikers.
From the valley station in Lana the cable car takes you up to the top station at 1,500 m above sea level. There you can put on your snow shoes and follow the trail marked as no. 34. If you prefer to skip the first, steeper part of the walk, you can take the chair lift and then continue on the more level path to the St. Vigil Chapel. Passing the hamlet of "Seespitz" you then reach the biotope at the "Schwarze Lacke" (a small mountain lake), where curling and ice skating are popular past times. From there you can either continue on another hike or take the way back to the lift. The San Vigilio area offers a host of easy intercrossing hiking routes, e. g. to the Naturnser Alm (a beautiful mountain pasture) or down to Aschbach. If you want to return to the chair lift follow trail no. 7. More experienced snow shoe hikers looking for a challenge can take trail no. 9 to the Hochwart mountain top at 2,608 m above sea level.
